The Single-Eyed Banana

It was many years ago

when it came to be,

that the single-eyed banana

crawled up out of the sea,

and sniffed his way to a fine new home

in a young and good-looking tree,

and from up there amongst the leaves

he'd squint back out to sea,

but one day he wasn't paying attention

and squashed a school age carrot,

and was condemned in a court of banana law

to a minute of pecking by parrot,

and during this fateful 60 seconds

his one eye was cruelly plucked,

and our poor banana turned bright yellow

and squealed "right, now i'm fucked"!

but with help from his family and banana mates

he made it back to his tree

from where he could no longer sit and wonder

and look out to the sea,

but he learned to love his forced new life,

and to make his existence pay -

by resolving to taste really splendidly good,

he became what we know today!

so it's important the next time you chew on a fruit

that's tasty, yellow and bendy,

you remember the story that lies behind

and forget the cool and the trendy,

and next time you feel the mariner's breeze

and know what it means to be,

be sure to picture the one-eyed banana

crawling out of the sea...
